A beautiful, solid oak Wainscot chair. Featuring a traditionally carved panel back, solid oak side arms and turned front legs. This item has recently been removed from a local farm clearance where it has been in the family for many years. The item is traditionally made with and features pegged joints. As you can see from the carving on the back rest, it shows an anchor and heart with central cross. Unfortunately, we do not understand what these symbols represent. We believe that this is a Victorian copy of an earlier chair, but could date earlier than Victorian. The rear bottom rail looks like it has been replaced at some stage, and we have also pointed out a small expansion crack in the rear panel, and a small fillet of timer that is missing from the rear of the chair. This has happened many years ago, and does not affect the stability or structural integrity of this chair. This chair is in lovely condition, and would complement any period interior. As previously stated, we believe that this is a Victorian copy, however, it could possible date earlier than this.
