Upstairs by Tom Shepherd, Lichfield

The service and furniture you receive from Peppermill Interiors is second to none. I was drawn in due to their locality, supporting local businesses is very important to me, along with their superior products, their family run operation is a continuous support for us at Upstairs. I couldn't be happier with the furniture we have in our restaurant, and it all comes from Peppermill Interiors.

In the heart of Lichfield, Upstairs by Tom Shepherd is located above a quaint jewellery shop owned by the chef’s father. The spire of St Mary’s church, peeking over from the adjoining street, forms an imposing backdrop to the Michelin starred restaurant, emphasising the abundant history of the traditional city.

A Sultry Sanctuary

In-keeping with the understated exterior and minimalistic sign, the interior of Upstairs is precision perfect. Tom Shepherd and his team have created a sultry sanctuary for his customers to enjoy each carefully prepared course.

Colours and textures have been repeated throughout to create a symbiotic and unified space. Lowry Velvet Dining Chairs are interspersed around the restaurant. The palette grey colourway complements the bold, deep grey walls, adding to the lavish dining experience. A plumptious, stone-coloured booth-style seat wraps its way around the room and is finished with under-seat lighting.

The natural warming tones of the Antique Yellow Ash Table Tops form a connection to the wooden bar area, inviting it into the room. Peppermill Interiors offer a design-your-own-table feature to suit your requirements, with a wide range of table tops, colourways and bases. Upstairs by Tom Shepherd includes two varying metal pedestal bases and round, square and rectangular wooden table tops.

The apex-style ceiling offers various heights and geometric forms that reach up to the exposed brickwork and hanging light fixtures, combining industrial elements with refined luxury.

A Historical Experience

Beautifully bijou, this restaurant exudes a relaxed and refined quality, from the sleek, luxurious furniture, to the pampas grasses and trailing ivy, which give colour to the rich cream and grey walls.

The building dates back over a hundred years, and although many modern features appear throughout the renovation, certain original elements remain. A timber beam, uncovered in the development, was repurposed into breadboards, becoming part of every customer’s experience.

A Prestigious Position

Four Admiral Wingback Bar Stools are positioned along the ‘Kitchen Table’, a seating space where you can oversee Tom and his team as they serve and describe each dish they create for you.

Having only opened at the end of 2021, this Michelin starred restaurant is consistently booked up months in advance. With such an impressive response from the public, we love watching Upstairs go from strength to strength and are honoured to have played a small part in its conception.
