MAKING A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Approximately 8 million tonnes of plastic waste enter the ocean every year, killing more than a million seabirds and 100,000 mammals. Plastic production isn’t slowing down either, doubling over the past 50 years. There are many projects going on around the world to try to remove plastic waste from our oceans and waterways but, according to Plastic Oceans UK, the only way to eliminate the problem is to reduce the amount of waste being created in the first place.

At Peppermill Interiors we wanted to do our bit. Not just separating our waste either, we wanted to create a product that helped reverse the problem. We wanted an Eco Chair!

We’re not claiming to be whiter than white; we do carry several ranges which use PU plastics to provide hard wearing, cost-effective alternatives to leather, but we consider them to be long-lived plastic products. Our new Eco Chair, on the other hand, takes single use plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfill and turns it into a long-lived useful product.

The Peppermill Interiors Eco Chair is not the first piece of furniture made from recycled plastic; however, we have used our many years of experience supplying bars and restaurants to make it the most practical. It’s a stacking chair, ideal for businesses that need to store outside furniture overnight. It’s available as a barstool with two height options, to suit a wide range of seating areas. It’s available in a range of coloured frames and, with sufficient quantity, can be produced in any RAL colour.

Our new eco-friendly stacking chairs are made from 100% sustainable materials. The chair frames are made from British steel, of which 77.1% is recycled in the UK and put back into the production of new steel. The seats and backrests are made from 100% recycled plastic, meaning that every seat made is taking waste plastic out of the environment, and not contributing to new plastic production. Being made here in the UK, they also have a lower carbon footprint, too.

Peppermill Interiors is also a proud member of The Re-Circle, a collection of British businesses supporting Plastic Oceans UK in their efforts to raise awareness of the plastic problem. To help you do your bit, for every eco-friendly dining chair sold, we will be making a donation to Plastic Oceans UK.

Our design team is working on extending our range of sustainable furniture, so watch this space. Come on, join the fight for our planet and help take plastic out of the waste equation.
